The Location
Winyah Bay is one of the largest estuaries on the South Carolina coast, stretching from the Georgetown waterfront to the open Atlantic.
Its protected waters and consistent coastal winds make it well suited for comfortable sailing.
The bay is bordered by undeveloped barrier islands and historic landholdings, including Hobcaw Barony, Cat Island, and North Island.
These areas create long, uninterrupted views of shoreline and open water that feel distinctly Lowcountry.
Depending on conditions, we may pass historic markers such as the remains of the Harvest Moon shipwreck or offer distant views of the Georgetown Lighthouse.

The Experience
Sailing on Winyah Bay offers a unique perspective of the Lowcountry that’s wide, quiet, and largely unchanged.
GT Sailing Adventures hosts small-group sails aboard a 43-foot DuFour sailing yacht, with a maximum of six guests onboard. The cruise includes learning about the history of Georgetown and Hobcaw Barony.
The pace is relaxed, the setting open, and the focus is on time on the water rather than a scheduled itinerary.
Guests are welcome to take part in the sailing or simply enjoy the ride.
Snacks and drinks are provided, and no prior sailing experience is needed.
Your Captain
Bill Kahn is a South Carolina native who learned to sail at an early age and has been drawn to the water ever since.
After graduating from Georgia Tech, he and his wife, Karen, moved to New York, where they spent a couple decades raising their three children, and braving those cold New York winters.
Once the children were grown, Bill and Karen, returned to South Carolina (where they now live near Winyah Bay), to be closer to family and the coast that had always felt like home.
Owning a sailboat had long been a dream for Bill, and today he sails the coastal waters aboard his DuFour 430, Sea Said Yes, sharing the experience with others through sailing charters.
Bill is licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard, and Sea Said Yes meets all required safety and inspection standards. His charters are run at an easy pace, with a focus on laid-back, comfortable sailing.
